The Curious Case of A Mustache Runs Through It

Just great...'Stachey-come-lately Brad Pitt is getting more press for his 'Stachionista liphair...

But we guess that's OK...Some of our Growers showed the media elite what a real 'Stache looks like last night at M Bar downtown...we wonder if we could get Angeradley to grow that thing for charity...

Check out our Growers' encounter with the Washington Post's Celebritology Blog.

Pictures from last night's Checkpoint #2 will be up soon!

In This Town, A Mustache = Power

The Reliable Source, the "defining gossip column for and about Washington," has confirmed it...If you want to get anywhere in this town these days, you better bring your mustache.

President-Elect Obama has been scouring the Beltway for appointees who will meet his agenda of change...and that agenda apparently also includes a shift in shaving sensibilities.

(Insider's note: Henry Waxman's mustache is contemplating a run for a House seat in 2010...from Waxman's own district! More to come...)

What If Celebrities Were Growers in 2008?

Unconfirmed rumors have Rachael Ray and Victoria Beckham (nee Posh Spice, nee Victoria Adams) participating in this years Growing Season...Or was it Conan O'Brien and Eric Estrada? We can't remember exactly.

Fortunately, you can get a preview of all the Celeb-u-'stache action at Celebrity Mustache...Just in case the impossible happens and Sylvester Stallone dressed as Rocky doesn't show up for Thursday checkpoints this fall with a well-kept handlebar in his corner.

Hall & Oates and a Supercharged 'Stache

John Oates, of Hall & Oates, and his cartoon 'stache fight a jealous Tom Selleck for interplanetary domination of lip hair...unreal.

Editor's Note: Observe the less common spelling of mustache with an "o" in the article's headline. Rolling Stone has apparently gone French.

The Sun Never Sets on the Imperial 'Stache

Lest we become overly enraptured with the current tide of mustache popularity, we remember those times in the past and surely, those in the future, when mustaches have, and will once again, be thinned out.

Such was the case for the British as they jaunted across the globe in the 19th and 20th centuries, riding their face growth to astonishing highs and nauseating lows, as this article from London's Daily Mail (where we got the above picture) points out:

Rugged...Self-Assured...Adult...

...is the man who wears a mustache

The Bodhisattvan Ringo Starr

A little vignette, notifying the world that we are no linger ironic...we are serious.

Reprinted from MSN.com

Advent of the Mustache
Although society had been flirting with the return of the mustache for years, we'd remained unconvinced. It had become a trifle, a mockable prop—even to those sporting it.

But sometimes the truth comes at you unexpected. Like maybe riding down from the rooftop bar of a fine New York hotel, after an evening of drinks, in a paneled elevator crowded with not a few beautiful women, some of us yobs from the office, and, in the middle, a single man standing tall, in a dark suit, wearing a mustache.

The space grew quiet, then one of our people—the one who'd had the most to drink—started in: "The mustache. Are we okay with the mustache?" A response came without hesitation or rancor. "Oh, yes, you should try it yourself," the man with the mustache said. "It's empowering." The accent was Merseyside. He sounded like a bodhisattvan Ringo Starr.

But we weren't done with him. "Really? What about maintenance?"

"There's less to do. You don't even think about it."

Our own guy hesitated, paused, and confessed: "The truth is, I have thought about it, but don't know if I could pull it off."

The man nodded. He understood. "You can. It's a declaration. Try it. Set yourself free."

With that, the doors opened and he disappeared into the night. And we were believers. The serious mustache is back.

'Stachism Next Hot Decision '08 Debate Topic

We are shocked and appauled. We demand to know what kind of 'stache-ist, partisan research group funded the skewed and misleading claims presented by this shirt, which was found for sale on the internets recently. Such flippant disregard for the truth about 'staches and those who choose to wear them, for whatever reason, will not be tolerated by the M4KDC organization, and we demand a retraction.

There has never been an independently funded and varified study which showed a higher rate of incarceration for firearm-related homocide among mustachioed individuals...not one.

I found this proto-'stache photo while excavating some M4K materials... The Mysterious 'Stache Hibey, 'Stache Jeff "Drabek" Stockdale, and myself, Mustache King of the Nation's Capital, are all sporting ur-lip cozies...sound bases for fundraising, yet still perhaps a little thin in form, and lacking in execution...I believe this is from week 2...
